Changes to Home Banking...

In 2005, the FFIEC updated letter 01-CU-10, Authentication in an Electronic Banking Environment, to require all financial organizations to increase the security requirements for customers logging into their accounts. Telhio implementd this requirement in December 2006.

When member log into their Home Banking account, they need their member number and PIN. With the additional security, they will need their member number, PIN, and to select their security picture.

How it Works

  1. The member will select a picture from approximately 50 options.
  2. The next time the member logs into Home Banking:

     -
They will input their member number and PIN.

-  Click on their security picture (mixed in with 23 random pictures)

How Does This Provide Better Protection?

  • Pictures are easy to remember.
  • Generally, members won’t write down their picture.
  • Defeats Key Logging software – Passwords can be captured by recording what the member types, the picture is selected by clicking on it.
  • Defeats Mouse Logging software – All pictures displayed to the members will get a random name each time and the pictures are shuffled each time.
  • Protects against Phishing sites – If a member goes to what they think is Telhio Home Banking, puts in their member number and PIN, and does not see their picture, then they know there is a problem.
