School's out for summer, which means long days of swimming, cookouts, and play dates. But beware: there will come a time this summer when your children tell you that they're bored. Be prepared! These free activities will keep your kids entertained and engaged until school starts again:

1. Take trips to the local library. Contrary to what your kids might think of libraries, they are actually one of the perfect places to take them during the summer. Check out your local library for a list of the different activities they're hosting and ask them about their summer reading program. It's a great place for the kids to interact with others their age while keeping their mind stimulated during summer break.

2. Movies in the park. There's nothing better than a free movie! Check to see if your town (or one nearby) is hosting a movie in the park during the summer. This is a great way to wind down the day and relax with your family, all while keeping the kids entertained.

3. Visit a new park every week.
This is the great thing about recreational parks: there are so many of them, you can't get bored! Do some research and pick a new park to take your kids to every week. This way they get to explore new surroundings all while getting exercise!

4. Have a game tournament.
There's nothing wrong with a little family-friendly competition. Have a family game or card tournament during the duration of the summer and see who ends up being the champion!

5. Cool off at a splash pad.
Pool passes can be expensive; that's what splash pads are for! These free "water parks" are great for kids of all ages and you don't have to worry about them going to the deep end. Splash pads provide different water features that will keep the kids entertained for hours.
